Autumn Tour, September/October 2007

The first show at Hunstanton was reviewed by Hannah Goldsmith:

Hunstanton Rocked With PJ

“The most beautiful sound I ever heard….” and then he appeared. The Princess Theatre in Hunstanton overflowed with fans old and new on Sunday evening, as they gathered to hear 60’s pop icon P.J. Proby in concert. Accompanied by the young and very talented Tennesseans P.J. wooed and wowed his audience with hit songs ‘Hold Me’, ‘Together’ and ‘I Apologise’. His chart-topping Maria and the great Somewhere brought row upon row of enthralled fans to their feet in ecstatic appreciation – and P.J. loved it!

Tall and elegant in a black suit, P.J. captivated his audience for 90 nostalgia filled minutes, weaving majestically thru songs like ‘Hurt’, ‘I Will’, ‘Question’, ‘Angelica’ and ‘Nikki Hoeky’. At 68, the silver haired Texan, who has lived in the UK for over 40 years, continued to delight fans with his unique rendition of such classics as ‘Que Sera Sera’, ‘Stagger Lee’, ‘Mission Bell’ and ‘Lonely Weekends’, proving once again that pure talent and originality will outlast fake competition and the fiercest of criticism.

Tanned, lissom and in spontaneously good humour P.J. connected beautifully with his devoted fans time and again. With a vocal range flowing powerfully yet effortlessly thru country, rock, big ballads and light opera, P.J. held the audience in the palm of his hand, and in closing the first half of the show with ‘I’m Coming Back!’ it was obviously going to be party-time at The Princess!

The second half included the beautiful ‘Masquerade is Over’ an Elvis Medley, and a duet with Vicky Harrop, lead singer of The Tennesseans when she and P.J. performed a Johnny Cash duet. P.J.’s rendition of the classic ‘American Trilogy’ brought the fast-paced but exhilarating show to a close, with his personal dedication to the British and American forces overseas. Words that could have sounded tired and hollow came alive as P.J. gave himself completely, and for a few breathtaking moments both he and his audience moved into another dimension. Finally, standing ovation followed standing ovation. The Princess had found her Prince! The show’s flyer described the evening “Together with P.J. Proby” and without doubt the Legend still has it all together – and then some!

Dunfermline on the 4th of October 2007 was something else!

Although not many tickets were sold the people that showed up were all true fans. Some of them had waited over 40 years to see PJ! The other part had all his records and had been to the Ring Of Fire Tour last year. For them PJ did two Johnny Cash songs together with Vicky Harrop and they all loved it.

The Carnegie Hall is a nice sympathetic theatre with very friendly people and good lighting! Except for some minor issues about lights and monitors the whole show went very smooth! PJs voice was in top shape! Specially Maria went superb again!

Sophie, Mitch, Sarah and Paul all gave there best as well, when it was solo time! The three girls were great in backing vocals.

PJ looked absolutely magic in his black shirt, as you can see in the pictures.

A real Hollywood show!
